Onbegrijpelijk rijk

A cinematic, one-take, real-time theatre piece from Theater RAST about the underside of privilege and what it costs to be born into it. At the edge of a rehab clinic's pool, two former lovers meet again by chance after years apart: Yalçin and Josje, both children of money and influence. They circle back to their youth, to a secret they once shared and buried, one that their fathers' power and influence kept quiet for years.

With this piece, theatre-maker Ferhat Kaplan examines both the seductive shine and the dark, frayed edges of privilege, and above all looks for the common ground between rich and poor: our vulnerable, sometimes uncomfortable humanity. He draws on his own life, having been both rich and poor, and on the way the world treats you differently depending on which.

I'm excited to be stepping into this one, moving from screen into the theatre alongside director Aramis Garcia Gonzalez, on a story that sits close to our hearts. Intimacy lives differently on a stage than it does on camera. There are no second takes and no edit to hide in, so the trust and the choreography have to hold live, night after night. That's a craft I love, and it's a gift to bring it to a piece this tender and this honest. Tickets are on sale now, and I can't wait to share it with an audience.
