Reclaiming Dragons
Reclaiming Dragons is a debut short film blending science fiction, psychological thriller and the female gaze, directed by Xiang Yu Yeung and produced by Terry Tao (Gentaoman) graduating from the New Producers Academy.
This story was born from director Xiang Yu Yeung's own experience growing up between cultures, identities and worlds. The film reclaims the dragonlady, a term historically used to stereotype Asian women, and turns it into something entirely her own: a story about what happens when you stop making yourself small and start taking up the space that was always yours.
What stayed with me on this project was how openly everyone invited me into the sensitivities of the story. Among Dutch intimacy coordinators, there are few with a Chinese background, which made it all the more meaningful that the team created such a warm space to learn together. Reclaiming Dragons pushed me to grow in cultural sensitivity in ways I hadn't expected. Intimate, ambitious and personal, it is exactly the kind of project that reminds me why this work matters.
