SUGAR
Fresh out of university and newly moved in with her boyfriend, Nora (Ezra Koppejan) quickly realizes that sharing his life doesn't mean building her own. The future they've planned together feels less like a foundation and more like a mold she was never meant to fill. In search of agency, she begins exploring sex work. Not as a last resort, but as a deliberate choice. Sugar is a quiet, honest portrait of a young woman learning to distinguish between the life she's been handed and the one she actually wants.
Produced with support from BNNVARA.
Sugar doesn't moralize, it observes. Director Rosa Geertsma-Lackroy approaches her subject with the belief that strength lives not in having the right answers, but in the courage to ask honest questions. The film is an invitation to look at independence not as a destination, but as something we negotiate constantly. With ourselves, with the people we love and with the expectations we inherit.
